Sacha Inchi is an oleaginous plant originally from the Peruvian Amazon and it is known as the Inca peanut because of its importance during the empire.

It is also known as peanut of the mountain. Its seeds contain one of the most important sources of Omega 3, 6 and 9 in the world. Extraordinary oil considered an essential fatty acid for life.

Sacred Valley of the Incas in Cusco.Its hrvest goes back to the Inca period.

Geographical distribution

It is a native plant of the Peruvian Amazon described for the first time, as a species, in the year 1753 by the Linnaean Naturalist; for that its scientific name Plukenetia  volúbilis linneo. The order to which it belongs (Euphorbiceae) is distributed throughout the world covering about 280 genera with 8000 species.

In our country it has been found in Madre de Dios, Huánuco, Oxapampa, San Martín, Rodríguez de Mendoza, Ucayali Basin (Pucallpa, Contamana and Requena), in Putumayo and around Iquitos and Caballococha.
